Ginny Telego, Former President and Certified Equine Experiential Education (E3A) Practitioner

Ginny Telego’s father flamed her passion for horses when he introduced her to the beautiful animals when she was a child. He then added fuel to the fire by arranging for her to begin riding lessons at age 12.   When Ginny was 13, her father bought an eight-year-old Pony of the Americas, “Chief,” for $100. Chief was Ginny’s first horse educator – unbeknownst to her at the time – teaching her much about horses, life, and herself.

In high school, Ginny took her fascination with horses to the next level, spending most of her free time working with horses at a local training barn. She also began giving her first lessons in horsemanship during that time.

Ginny became a professional horse handler after receiving an associates degree in Equine Studies from Cazenovia College in New York in 1986.   She relocated to Ashland, Ohio, to work full-time for Myers Horse Farms, Inc., a Quarter Horse breeding farm.   There Ginny trained and showed young horses for competition.

In 1993, Ginny began to search for better methods of working with horses – methods that were more emotionally and physically safe for both horse and handler.   This quest for knowledge launched a journey into the exploration of “natural horsemanship,” a human/horse relationship concept that links horse psychology and behavior directly to the way people work with them. Ginny’s exploration of natural horsemanship is a continuing experience that has taught Ginny much about the nature of horses as well as how horses can help people gain insight into themselves and discover new pathways for personal and professional growth.

In 2005, Ginny became a certified riding instructor with the American Riding Instructors Association (ARIA). With this certificate, Ginny started what has become a very successful part-time business teaching people to safely enjoy horses. Her students have achieved great success in competing at both the local level and national level, competing and placing in the top ten at the All-American Quarter Horse Congress.

In 2007, Ginny received her Level 1 certification with EAGALA (Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association), which led to the creation of another business, Wager’s Way, LLC. Wager’s Way is an equine experiential education business offering a variety of programs dedicated to helping people improve both their personal and professional lives by working with horses.

In 2013 Ginny earned her Certified Advance Practitioner certification with the Equine Experiential Education Association (E3A) and is now a Master Trainer for the organization. She has traveled nationally and internationally to facilitate equine assisted leadership development as well as nationally to certify E3A members in doing equine assisted learning in their own programs.

Ginny is past president of the Board of Directors of the Equine Experiential Education Association (E3A), an international professional membership organization offering training, certification, business development and resources for the implementation of Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) programs by educators, coaches, professional development trainers and other facilitators.  Among her other board member responsibilities, she specifically directs marketing programs for the organization.

In addition to more than 35 years of horse experience, Ginny has a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Management and also has worked in a number of supervisory and management positions with responsibility for directing diverse groups of employees.   The management positions she has held include assistant manager in retail, Grand Teton National Park ranger supervisor, front desk supervisor of a resort, barn manager of Myers Horse Farms, Inc., administrative assistant to a vice president of Information Technology, and executive assistant to a Chief Operating Officer of Communications and Public Affairs.
